Resveratrol in Slim Metrix: Knotweed Extract, Checked Against the Research

Quick answer

Slim Metrix lists resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum (Japanese knotweed) root extract fifth in its 276 mg blend, with no published amount. Human studies saw small waist and glucose changes mainly above 500 mg a day for 10 weeks or more, a dose one capsule cannot reach. Ask first if you take a blood thinner.

Label facts

How much resveratrol is in Slim Metrix?

The label does not give an amount. Resveratrol is the fifth of eight ingredients in the 276 mg proprietary blend, which shows only its total weight (Slim Metrix label graphic).

The blend lists ingredients from most to least by weight (FDA: labeling guide (proprietary blends)), so four ingredients outweigh resveratrol. The real split is not published. If all eight were equal, each would be about 34.5 mg, but treat that as a picture, not a fact.

What does "Polygonum cuspidatum root extract 200:1" mean?

It names the plant source and how concentrated the extract is. Polygonum cuspidatum is Japanese knotweed, and the resveratrol in Slim Metrix comes from its root.

The "200:1" is an extract ratio, a way of saying the root has been heavily concentrated. It does not tell you how pure the resveratrol is, and it does not tell you how many milligrams are in each capsule. Neither of those numbers is on the label (Slim Metrix label graphic).

The research

Does resveratrol help with weight loss?

The clearest weight effect showed up in rats, not people. In human studies, resveratrol lowered waist size and glucose a little, mainly at doses above 500 mg a day taken for 10 weeks or longer (Asgary et al.: resveratrol and metabolic measures (meta-analysis)).

What reviews found for resveratrol (study doses, not the Slim Metrix dose)
QuestionFinding
Body weightClearest effect in rat studies; 6 of 16 studies in the 2019 review were in rats (Asgary et al.: resveratrol and metabolic measures (meta-analysis))
Waist and glucose in peopleSmall drops, mainly above 500 mg a day for 10+ weeks (Asgary et al.: resveratrol and metabolic measures (meta-analysis))
Insulin sensitivityNo effect in overweight adults (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol)
DiabetesA Cochrane review found insufficient evidence for its use (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol)

A result in rats does not prove the same happens in people, so the human rows matter most. No study has tested resveratrol inside Slim Metrix. See how a realistic results timeline looks.

Dose check

Can one Slim Metrix capsule reach the resveratrol dose used in studies?

No. The human effects showed up mainly above 500 mg a day, and the entire Slim Metrix blend weighs 276 mg, shared by eight ingredients.

Even if the whole blend were resveratrol, one capsule would fall short of 500 mg by almost half. With four heavier ingredients ahead of it on the list, the real amount is smaller still. And the label says one capsule a day, so taking more is not an option.

What this means for you

Do not expect the waist or glucose changes from resveratrol studies. If you want to track progress, use a scale once a week and a tape measure, and judge the whole routine, not one ingredient.

Safety first

Does resveratrol interact with blood thinners or other medicines?

It may. Resveratrol may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners such as warfarin, and at 1 g a day it changed several drug-processing enzymes (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol).

If you takeWhat the source saysWhat to do

The 1 g figure is far above anything one capsule could hold, but the bleeding caution has no dose attached, so take it seriously. Our side effects page lists every interaction for the whole formula.

Your day

Where does one capsule fit in a day built for weight loss?

Early, in a small slot. The meals, the walk and the weekly weigh-in fill the rest of the dial.

A 24-hour day: sleep from 11 pm to 7 am, one capsule around 7:30 am with the morning routine, a balanced lunch around 12:30, and a walk in the late afternoon2461218
  1. Morning, about 7:30

One capsule, as the label graphic suggests. Same time every day, so you never double up.

  2. Meals, as planned

A calorie-aware eating plan does the heavy lifting. Keep taking every medicine your doctor prescribed.

  3. Move most days

About 150 minutes a week of activity was part of the program that cut new type 2 diabetes by more than half.

  4. Weigh in weekly

Same scale, same time, once a week. A pace of 1 to 2 pounds a week is more likely to last.

Times are examples. Diabetes Prevention Program results (NIDDK: Diabetes Prevention Program results); a healthy pace of weight loss (CDC: losing weight).

A steady pace of about 1 to 2 pounds a week is more likely to stay off (CDC: losing weight). The capsule is an add-on at most; read our weight-loss guide for the steps that matter more.

FAQ

Resveratrol in Slim Metrix: common questions

What is resveratrol in Slim Metrix made from?

It comes from the root of Polygonum cuspidatum, a plant better known as Japanese knotweed. The label lists it as a 200:1 root extract and puts it fifth in the 276 mg blend (Slim Metrix label graphic). It gives no amount and no purity figure for the resveratrol itself.

Does resveratrol shrink your waist?

Only a little, and only at higher doses. A 2019 review found small waist and glucose drops in people, mainly above 500 mg a day for 10 weeks or more (Asgary et al.: resveratrol and metabolic measures (meta-analysis)). One Slim Metrix capsule cannot reach that, since its whole blend is 276 mg.

Is resveratrol safe with blood thinners?

Not without your doctor's okay. Memorial Sloan Kettering says resveratrol may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners such as warfarin (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol). Slim Metrix also lists Korean ginseng, which may interfere with clotting (NCCIH: Asian ginseng). Ask the doctor who manages your blood thinner before you start.

Does resveratrol improve insulin sensitivity?

Not in the study Memorial Sloan Kettering describes. Resveratrol had no effect on insulin sensitivity in overweight adults, and a Cochrane review found insufficient evidence for its use in diabetes (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol). If you have insulin resistance, a lifestyle program has far stronger evidence (NIDDK: Diabetes Prevention Program results).

Can resveratrol change how my medicines work?

At high doses, yes. At 1 g a day it changed the activity of the CYP3A4, 2D6, 2C9 and 1A2 enzymes, which break down many common drugs (MSK About Herbs: resveratrol). Slim Metrix holds far less, but berberine in the same blend also affects some of these enzymes (MSK About Herbs: berberine).

Why is resveratrol in a weight-management capsule?

The label does not say. Resveratrol is often sold for metabolism, and the seller's short ingredient list names it (Sales page, quickslimstep.com/frt). The research behind that idea is mixed: the clearest weight effect came from rat studies, and human effects needed doses above 500 mg a day (Asgary et al.: resveratrol and metabolic measures (meta-analysis)).
